Reevaluation is Key for Success in Any Pursuit
Looking back to my 20-year history of dieting (since I was 8!) the quote comes to mind: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results". I've started to reevaluate my ideas about how I should be losing weight, instead of assuming that because I did not adhere to a certain diet that I simply don't have enough willpower.
What I've realized:
1. Running is no bueno for me. It gives me heartburn and hurts my knees. I gave myself permission to do another exercise.
2. I hate steady cardio. Now I do HIIT/strength training instead and see much better results.
3. Counting calories turns me into a madman. It makes me feel like a robot. Now I divide my plate to make sure I'm getting 1/2 veggies, 1/4 carb, and 1/4 protein with every meal.
4. Mentality is #1. If I have an inner dialogue of hate and yelling at myself, binging is going to happen. I meditate 3x a day now to keep my headspace positive and take timeouts to keep on track. It's indispensable to this whole process.
In a nutshell, give yourself permission to reevaluate what works for you, to guarantee it's no longer a diet- it's a lifestyle change that will last forever.
