Glenn Livingston's Series on Binge Eating
Does anyone know the Glenn Livingston book series on binge eating? His free ebook called Never Binge Again is available on kindle. The premise is adopting a mind trick that makes you see the instinctual survival part of your brain as the culprit for overeating. It's helped me a lot- tell me what you think if you've read it, or once you do!
The premise is to recognize that your binge eating is driven by a mechanism that is millennia-old. The survival instinct, or lizard brain, or mid-brain, is responsible for an insatiable drive to continue eating. Watch out- every meal could be your last.
The book guides you through how to create a personal analogy for this ancient
binging mechanism to detach from it
permanently. The trick is to love yourself- by NOT loving the urge to binge. We
must separate the urge to
binge from ourselves as people and recognize it as, more or less, the enemy.
The reason this works- trying to love the part of your brain that wishes to do nothing but pile on pounds is a sure recipe for failure. Ask Glenn- Over a decade ago, with a PH.D. in Clinical Psychology and his own practice, he could still not get his binging under control. Another way was discovered in a clinical trial with several dozen participants- apparently, you simply cannot love this survival instinct, or it will have its way. Instead, recognize it as separate from yourself, and create a special disdain for it, in order to draw away its power and return it to you.
Give this book a try- it can't hurt. This mechanism, as I stated previously, has proven very successful for me. Any alternate types of therapy, no matter how out-of-the-box, are worth sharing if it works for at least one person.
